How to Fix a Motorola Droid RAZR HD (Step-by-Step Tutorial) :

  • First you will want to make sure your device is fully powered off before you begin.
  • Next you will need to remove sim card tray using a sim-card removal tool or a paper clip.
  • Then taking your Torx T5 Screwdriver you will need to remove the two (2) screws circled in the figure below at the bottom of the device.
  • With these screws removed you will be able to slide the front screen assembly and frame up from the rest of the device. NOTE: There are going to be two (2) jaw-bone connections to be released once the screen assembly is able to be lifted up from the rest of the device.

See figure below for screw and connection locations.

  • Next you will want to take your Torx T3 Screwdriver and remove the two (2) screws circled in the figure below.
  • This will allow you to take your plastic pry tool and remove the silver shield covering the ear speaker and front camera flex assembly
  • Next take your plastic pry tool and peel up the ear speaker / front camera assembly that is adhered to the metal housing.
  • Lastly you will need to peel up the LCD and digitizer flex assembly shown in the figure below to be able to slide it through the housing during removal.

See figure below for reference.

  • Now you will want to take your heat gun or blow dryer and begin applying heat to the front and back of the screen assembly and housing.
  • Do this in roughly 30-45 second intervals on a medium setting hovering about 3-4 inches away from the device.
  • You will find that the adhesive will start to warm up and loosen which will allow you to insert your safe open pry tool between the seam of the housing and screen assembly.
  • Work your pry tool along all sides of the housing to release and cut the adhesive holding the screen to the frame.
  • Once the adhesive has been released enough you can slide the flex cable assembly through the slot in the housing to remove it completely.

See figure below for reference.
